OLSA learning with Matthew Harris

I’m at West Dean again and starting my blog after an interruption by the dreaded winter viruses and recovery travel.

I am at the much anticipated ‘Walking the Line with Thread’ course at West Dean college tutored by Matthew Harris.

I was recommended this course as part of my foundation diploma – we started last night by dyeing shreds and patches of different materials and lengths of yarn.

It is a longer course than usual (4 days) so I hope I can really try and develop ideas rather than trying to finish everything very quickly – it is more about exploring ideas and techniques to take home and work through. I realise I have not yet developed a practice that is habitual yet – have been distracted by other time consumers. I do draw regularly now – a change for me but  I need to plan some days of developing ideas further.

Much lighter and better weather than the last time I was here in December….looking forward to being outside and bringing ideas back in from the lovely grounds.

The picture is of a piece I made with Annabel Ridley which I want to develop into a piece…will spend time here thinking about how…
