OLSA: John Donne

John Donne (1572-1631) was a meta-physical poet and priest. He lived in turbulent times when religious differences between Catholic and Protestant were a matter of life and death.

After converting to Anglicanism he became, eventually, Dean of St Paul’s and his religious prose and poetry is as beautifully written as his famous love poetry. This prayer, sometimes written as an excerpt from a sermon, is a wonderful reminder of eventual wholeness and deep fulfilment.
